The Adventures of Sheriff McRattripper - Story 4

The Sheriff solves the Curse of Catslvania mystery....

It was a clear night sky, with no clouds interrupting the light show up above. A carriage was on the roads. Inside the carriage, the lady was about to put on her sleep-patch on her eyes when she heard a spooky sound.

She sighed. This sound had been following her along scarily for a couple of days now. At first, she ignored them, but then it was getting out of control. She knew she was being followed. But she had an idea. She knew someone who could solve her problem once and for all.

For now, she has to wait.

One sunny morning found Sheriff McRattripper in his comfy red office chair watching the TV. Today was his day off, and his plan of action was, well…. No action at all!

After having to deal with mouse bandit cases for a week, not to mention the monstrous Catinator, Sheriff had the right to doze off in his chair all day long. Doing nothing but just watch his most favourite movie – Dogs ‘N’ Fish. And even better, in the movie was the popular actress of all time, Amelia Pawheart. She was an absolute wonder in acting and was very graceful. The Sheriff gave a happy sigh. Aaahh… this couldn’t get any better.

He was about to go into a very deep shut-eye when the door burst open. The Sheriff did his opening-his-alert-eyes-look and sat up straight in his chair. Unlike other incidents, where the Sheriff would know that his clients were going to knock on his door, he didn’t expect this at all. What was most unexpected was that the person who was standing in front of him wasn’t any Tom, Dick or Lady Catnada.

It was none other than… Amelia Pawheart.

The Sheriff sat open-mouthed. Was this a dream? Rattrippper scratched himself with his claw and blinked five times. He didn’t, however, have the time to faint as before he could, the actress started talking. “Sheriff, Sheriff, please help me! There is.. there is…”, the actress babbled away to glory while the Sheriff recovered from his amazement.

“All right, all right. Tell me your story clearly”, said the Sheriff.

“Well…”, she said, “It all happened a week ago, when I was on my way to Catslvania for an film shooting trip. I stayed there for a day and on my return I started hearing these strange noises likes someone was following me. So I ordered the coachman to bring me here to Catnada Ranch. Which is why I’m here.” She ended her story.

“Hmmm…”, the Sheriff eyed the woman from top to bottom but stopped when he saw a beautiful necklace studded with a black diamond. “Is that from Catslvania?” he enquired, pointing at the necklace. “Why, yes!, replied Amelia. ‘Catslvania is very famous for its intricately designed and unique jewellery.”

‘Anything that is a souvnir from Catslvania is not a freebie’, thought the Sheriff. ‘I must keep an eye on it.’

The plan was simple. The actress was a bait, who would venture out in the dark night and then would be followed by her stalkers. The Sheriff would be shadowing them and take action when the time comes.

Later in the evening, the Sheriff was doing some research on Catslvania. As he was reading some older copies of ‘The Daily Meow’, he came across an article that said ‘The Catslvania Curse’. He glanced at the image in the article. It looked vaguely familiar. Then it struck him, “Aha, this was Amelia’s necklace”.

The Sheriff had just solved the case.

So that night, Amelia Pawheart acted out her best ever role. She snuck out of the Sheriff’s office. “Are you sure this will work?”, she asked before leaving. “Positive”, said the Sheriff. He really was a man of very few words.

Amelia chose to go near a dark and narrow alley, also a little smelly. Little did she know that her unknown stalkers were already following her every move. The stalkers were so focused on their bait, that they didn’t notice the presence of Sheriff McRattripper who was stealthily tailing him. As the moon rose, the alley got lit by moonlight and then Amelia could see she was being followed. Suddenly she stopped. She had run into a wall, this was a dead end. She didn’t know what to do! She was corned and thought, “Oh Sheriff, please help me!”

Suddenly out of nowhere, the Sheriff leaped out into the spotlight with a revolver in his tail. The moon looked like it was casting its light on the Sheriff only! The gun in his tail was pointed at three figures who were still hidden in the shadows.

“Stop”, cried the Sheriff, “Who are you? Reveal yourselves!”

Three cloaked bodies emerged, faces as pale and white as the moon. Their cloaks were pitch black covering them entirely.

“We Mr.McRattripper…”, said the first figure. “Are the spirits…”, continued the second one. “… of Catslvania!” ended the third one.

“Ok..”, said the Sheriff, “You have come for this, have you not?”, he said pointing at the necklace in Amelia’s neck.

“Yes..”, said Spirit #1. “It is the only way…” said Spirit #2. “…to life the curse”, said Spirit #3.

The Sheriff turned to Amelia Pawheart and asked. “Where did you get that necklace?” The actress looked innocently at the Sheriff and said, “I stopped by a weird shop in Catslvania and found this beautiful necklace. I was intrigued by it and bought it immediately.”

The Sheriff sighed. “Let me tell you more about it. It is called the Black Blood diamond of Catslvania. Whoever wore it would be followed by the Catslvania spirits and would be marked as ‘guilty for stealing’ for the rest of their life. Amelia, you have to give back the necklace to the spirits or else be haunted forever.”

“But….”, began Amelia. “No buts! No Mutts!” yelled McRattripper.

Amelia removed the necklace and kept it at the feet of the spirits.

“You are free from the Curse of Catslvania!”, they said in unison and disappeared, with the necklace.

The Sheriff was back in his office, on his day-off. He was enjoyed the reward of solving Amelia’s case – watching 30 Amelia Pawheart movie tapes! He had nothing else to do all day.

Aaaaahhh.. SO Relaxing!
